Summer is Cool

Summer is coming soon.
It’s hot, and lots of fun.
You get to dive in the pool,
And play all day in the sun!

In summer you wear pretty clothes
Like swimsuits, skorts, and tank tops.
Fancy blue dresses with polka dots,
And nice pink sandals or flip-flops.

I love to ride my pretty ponies
And take them jumping logs.
In summer it hardly ever rains.
It’s even dry in the bogs.

I jump on the trampoline,
And catch butterflies in the yard.
I protect the veggies from bugs,
I’m the garden guard!

My friends spend the night.
We love to play with my dog,
And sleep with her outside,
Then wake up in the fog!

Summer is great
Summer is cool
You play outside
And there is no school!

Sugar

To everyone who knew Sugar,

She was a great horse, but we had to put her down yesterday. Sugar was 28 years old. She died of Cushing's Disease, but she lived a great life and had a great retirement. She was the best horse ever.

When I woke up yesterday, I thought it was going to be a regular old day. When I crawled into bed with my mom, she told me that Sugar was laying down in her stall, and we needed to go check on her. We were afraid she was very sick.

When we went to check on Sugar, she looked a lot worse than we thought. She was laying down in the stable, and wouldn't get up. We closed the stall doors and went in with her, and waited for my dad to come home. While we were waiting for my dad, we covered Sugar with my Harry Potter sleeping bag to keep her warm, and gave her hay to eat. We also put straw down around her to keep her from laying in the mud and brought a bucket of water, but she would not drink.

When my dad came home, we got Sugar some apples and bananas, which she ate. We stayed with her for a while, and took care of her. She didn't seem like she was in much pain, just too weak to get up.

Finally, the vet came and told us she had to be put down. She had Cushing's Disease and was very old, so there was nothing he could do to help her. We are going to miss her a lot.

I'm going to post her pictures next to this entry.

Kaya and Bojangles

I'm making a crazy quilt!

This crazy quilt is going to be a dog bed for my dog Ally. Crazy quilts are very easy to make, and so much fun! There are 3 steps:

1. Pick out your favorite fabrics.

2. Sew them together any which way.

3. Iron the fabrics as you go along to keep it flat.

What Christmas is about....

Christmas is for having fun and doing things for others. It's fun when someone is thoughtful of you. So, when people do things for you and you're selfish, well, that's not really Christmas, is it?

Wow...we're in the blogosphere!

Welcome to the Dry Creek Academy Blog Site!

As you can see, we're just breaking ground, and expect the site to be under construction for quite some time. Our intention with this blog is to document our adventures in homeschooling (and life in general), and to keep our family updated on our miscellaneous escapades!

We hope you check back often to see our updates, and welcome feedback!
